blaka gowtu
performance by Grande Loge
2025
Oil has been discovered! Fifty years after Suriname gained independence (srefidensi), there is great optimism. In the recent parliamentary elections, for the first time, the focus was not on the past, but on the future. No Bouterse or Brunswijk, but Blaka Gowtu feni! The country is in a state of high anticipation and golden mountains await. This is the moment to step in, and Tjon Rockon has decided to dedicate himself to the country of his father and mother.
Suriname has a bright future ahead with the discovery of US oil dollars. The first oil field (block 58) alone could yield 10-20 billion dollars, while the country's current GDP is around 4.7 billion with 650,000 inhabitants. The black gold rush – Blaka Gowtu Passi – is justified. The pain of exploitation has been pushed into the background. It is rather the other way around: Su needs everyone to mine and monetise the new gold. Including tata's and pikin fu diaspora. For many with – and without – Surinamese roots, this may be the right time to consider the question: do I want to and can I contribute to the new Sranan? 25,000 people are needed!
Tjon Rockon has launched Grande Loge, an open recruitment initiative, to convince as many people as possible to choose the Suriname of tomorrow by taking the plunge now. He shows what is beautiful about his parents' country and how you can build a future there. Despite the challenges, there are enormous opportunities, natural resources and possibilities to pursue your personal happiness and wealth and take a new step in the country with which the Netherlands and the Dutch are so deeply connected.
Why wait any longer?
This performance was presented on 28 and 29 November 2025 at Theater Rotterdam.
