De ceremonie

The ceremony

2010

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen and nv C.H.O.K. invite you to the formal National Tribute in honour of the 118th anniversary of the heroic death of Lieutenant Lippens and Sergeant De Bruyne. These heroes lost their lives for the liberation of innocent Congolese from the hands of Arab-Islamic slavers. For this, they made the highest sacrifice: their lives.

The pious procession, graced by atmospheric music, will close with a retiring ceremony and reception offered to you by nv CHOK after a tribute to the monument. We would be delighted if you could add lustre to the above ceremony with your presence.

With this pilot project, we advise municipalities and governments on the reallocation and reintegration of colonial monuments in our current society.

In Flanders, Chokri works on the themes of independence and hero status. He founds his company C.H.O.K. through which he advises towns and municipalities saddled with colonial monuments. In this context, he organises a theatrical ceremony around the colonial monument of Lieutenant Lippens and Sergeant De Bruyne in Blankenberge. These colonial heroes stand on the seawall with a black, naked woman at their feet. Two soldiers: laid down their lives for the liberation of Congolese slaves from the hands of the Arab slavers? Or secretly laid down their lives for each other? Or nauseating colonials: laid down their lives for the enrichment of Belgium? One thing is etched in the stones: they died a hero's death for civilisation.
