L’Afrique C’est Chic

2010

The tragicomic and absurd dance theatre performance L'Afrique c'est chic tells about the 50th anniversary of Senegal's independence and the grief of the French, about the death of a Belgian cycling hero, a fallen angel and the grief of the Belgians, about Senegalese tourism and the price Senegal pays for it. In short, about dealing with loss, discovering comfort and redemption, ... And especially about the meaning of (dis)dependence. 

Chokri Ben Chikha made this performance in Senegal. There, in memory of the great master Maurice Béjart, he founded his own ballet: Le Ballet International du Senegal (B.I.S.).

Heroes Trilogy

L'Afrique C'est Chic is the first part of the Heroes Trilogy. Three projects around hero status: one in Senegal, one in the streets of Flanders and one in the theatre.
