broeders van liefde

brothers of charity

2008

Ismael (Chokri Ben Chikha) has betrayed and denied his brother. Yet he yearns to be read by his brother.
The brother left behind, Abdel (Zouzou Ben Chikha), has been a liability and plays the lonely trumpet. Magali (Marijke Pinoy), mother of all peoples, spins in her head.
An obscure young man, Suleiman (Haider Al Timimi), bounces back and forth. Lupe (Georgina Del Carmen Teunissen) and Pascal (Johan Heldenbergh) rip from their bodies. She wants to marry a woman. He melts for the young guy. With his fake moustache, Ludo (Titus De Voogdt) grosses in profound neighbourly love.

Everyone has their secrets. Their dramas. Unfulfilled dreams. Honourable and dishonourable loves. Open wounds. You can pour your heart out if you want. Let the wind blow through everything. Trying to get the light back on. It's that easy. Amen.

There they are. Seven distraught souls washed up on a paradise of broken glass. A raked together sediment of broken ideals, unfulfilled passion and unsuccessful loves. They struggle with the flaws of their virtues. A raucous cry for love, ... that never ends well. There is also hope, for the garland of brotherhood and sisterhood always endures. Behold humans; multiplied by seven.

“Cie Cecilia and Union Suspecte find each other in portraying vulnerable characters in search of love and recognition, and all the complexities involved, inherent in differences in age, orientation, character and culture of the characters.”

- De Redactie (VRT News)

The “movement language” of “Broeders van Liefde” gives a footprint of the three producers. Union Suspecte (former AZH) with the Ben Chikha's conclusion to the family trilogy, Compagnie Cecilia with its athletes and city ensemble HETPALEIS as a powerful catalyst.

familY-trilogY

Broeders van Liefde is the last part of the Family-Trilogy. Three projects based on autobiographical material from the childhoods of Chokri and Zouzou Ben Chikha.
